Supporting excellence in science teaching and learning is a vital and commonly shared vision for the Association for Science Education (ASE) and the Royal Society of Chemistry. That’s why we are delighted to be taking part in the ASE Annual Conference in January 2023.

Early career teachers conference

Friday 6 January, 9.30–17.15

The RSC Education team will be sponsoring a special ECT conference day as part of the ASE annual conference. Starting with a networking lunch, we’ll also be holding an ECT session especially for those starting out their career in education.

We’ll be there to answer any questions you may have and to help you find teaching resources on the Education website, plus we’ll have some useful materials to share with you.

We’ll also be letting you know about our latest events, upcoming competitions and new resources to use in class.

8.30 | Welcome and Keynote – Finding your feet in your first few years

Members of the 11-19 committee will provide advice on how to make the most of your ECT pathway. 

9.00–17.00 | Come and talk to us

The RSC Education team will be available throughout the ECT conference day. Find us at our table between sessions.

9.30–12.00 Choose from physics, chemistry and biology activities, advice from BEST and how to teach sustainability ECT sessions

12.00 | Teacher well-being and how can ASE help

Explore strategies to help improve and maintain your life-work balance.

13.00 | Lunch and networking

Come and meet our RSC Education team and other early career teachers.

14.00 | Supporting your development as an early career teacher

Our stand alone RSC Education session aimed student teachers and those in the early stages of their career. We’ll focus on ways to engage with reflective professional development at the start of your career as a science teacher, and how the RSC can support you in this journey.

15.00 | Coffee with ASE field officers and committee members 

Coffee and mingle is for all early career teachers. 

15.30 | Choose from how to question, learning planning and marking managment ECT sessions.

16.30 | Classroom Assessment and all that jazz

Hear how you can review what classroom assessment practices you do and ways get the best from your classes.

Sustainability session

Friday, 6 January, 9.30am 

Sustainability in the chemistry classroom

Find out about the RSC’s work on sustainability and meet our colleagues from the Policy and Education teams. This interactive session will highlight our latest thinking on sustainability and climate change in the curriculum, our resources to support your teaching and offer time to reflect on successful teaching practice.
