How a step-by-step approach to experiments can improve learning
Practical work is an important element of science learning. Students often look forward to them, yet they don’t always result in much learning. This articles describes a slow, step-by-step approach to practical work that involves the teacher demonstrating each process before students try it. It removes some of the opportunities for disruptive behaviour and student error, resulting in a better learning experience. The article includes a download to help chemistry teachers complete a rates of reaction experiment in this way.
