‘Beyond what they normally do’
A sixth form chemistry teacher talks about why the Chemistry Olympiad is great for students’ confidence and self-belief, preparing them for exams, university and more.
In this case study, Sarah Savarin, who teaches at Blackpool Sixth Form College, explains how taking part in the Olympiad can help students develop the skills they need, not only for harder A-level questions, but also for the challenges of university and beyond. She explains her approach to using past papers in preparation – helping students to practise, discuss their answers and ‘see how far they’ve come’ – as well as offering advice to teachers and schools new to the competition.
