Use this to demonstrate this classic and spectacular chemistry experiment
This is a classic chemistry demonstration which shows how different the properties of a compound can be from its constituent elements. It’s important to get it right, though, to avoid broken gas jars and confusing results. Here, Declan Fleming looks at how do this it right and explains why to avoid using this experiment when talking about the alkali metals or structure and bonding. Watch the video of the experiment, read the article for the teaching goals and insight, then download the technician notes to help your school’s science technicians prepare the experiment.
