The structure of benzene | 16–18 years

Use this worksheet with classroom slides and card sort activity to explore the structure of benzene with your learners
This lesson plan provides everything you need to explore the structure of benzene when studying aromatic chemistry as part of a post-16 course. The student worksheet offers questions on double bond equivalence, linking it to the structure of benzene as proposed by Kekulé. The PowerPoint shows how the model has evolved and introduces the idea of the 6-centre, 6-electron delocalised pi bond. Learners then move on to discuss the thermodynamic stability of benzene.
