Rates of reaction (pre-16)

Learning objectives

Participants will learn about:

  • different contexts for teaching rates of reaction
  • the sequence of key ideas that students need to understand rates of reaction
  • the common misconceptions and challenges that students experience with rates of reaction
  • integrating working scientifically into the rates of reaction topic

Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • explain rates of reaction through a range of different contexts
  • apply sequence learning of key ideas to maximise understanding of rates of reaction
  • identify common misconceptions, such as those associated with surface area and catalysis, and use knowledge to address them
  • plan to integrate aspects of working scientifically into rates of reaction learning schemes
