Carbon dioxide is bad for the Earth’s climate, so scientists are looking for ways to turn it into fuels or feedstock chemicals like carbon monoxide. To increase the beneficial effects for our climate, they are trying to do this using sunlight, just as plants use photosynthesis. A team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have stripped down photosynthesis to its essentials and are working to produce a catalyst for reducing carbon dioxide.
