How to help your students make the transition to higher education more smoothly

The transition to higher education is one of the least regulated transitions in a chemistry student’s academic career and the responsibility for helping pupils to make the transition from school to university lies with both school teachers and universities.

Kristy Turner, a fellow at the University of Manchester and secondary science teacher at a school in Bolton, shares her top three tips for smoothing the transition for post-16 chemists to their first year at university. She provides ideas for tasks and activities from her own experience to develop your students’ key skills, including a practical investigation to download and use with your own students.
