Embedding fundamental chemistry skills effectively may require some resequencing

The substance of chemistry lessons is deeply interrelated, so it’s crucial that students learn about chemical concepts in the right sequence. If teachers get this wrong, students’ understanding of how these chemical concepts are interconnected can become fragmented and disjointed. But if they get it right, students will comprehend the interconnectedness of chemical concepts, to unlock a wide range of applications. In this article Adam Boxer, head of science at The Totteridge Academy, provides some pertinent examples of why he thinks a properly sequenced learning journey is essential in chemistry education.
