The structure of the compound featuring the longest silicon–silicon bond made yet

Almost four decades after chemists disproved the double bond theory, researchers have broken the record for the longest silicon–silicon double bond ever made. The bond gives the molecule ambivalent reactivity, meaning it can react as a double bond or as two divalent silicon bonds.
