Six posters, three printed magazines and one step closer to the RSC’s net zero goal
You can’t beat the joy of opening an envelope and removing a pristine magazine and poster. It’s the smell (yes, I am odd like that), but also the wonder of a new batch of articles, opinions and ideas. What will you discover this time?
There are other benefits too; a copy of Education in Chemistry (EiC) is lighter than a phone or tablet and reading a print magazine is easier on the eyes than a screen. Indeed, when we’re all concerned about being glued to electronic devices, it’s yet another way to reduce your screen time.
So why am I about to tell you that EiC is going to print magazines less frequently from the 2025/26 academic year? Because like you, we’re concerned about the environment.
Carbon costs
I am old school. I started out making print magazines and I still love them, but I want EiC to offer you the absolute best value possible. And that means less paper and less postage.
You’ll still get the same great articles, by the same fabulous and knowledgeable education writers and teacher–contributors
EiC can reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to the RSC’s net zero target by printing and posting just three issues per year. Instead of two issues per term, you’ll get one. But we’re not reducing the number of posters. Each print issue will now include two instead of one. That’s still a total of six posters per academic year.

This new schedule of print magazines will use slightly less paper and significantly less postage. And it’s the carbon footprint of posting the magazines where we’ll make our biggest contribution to the RSC’s push for net zero.
Same great articles
You’ll still get the same great articles, by the same fabulous and knowledgeable generous education writers and teacher–contributors, but packed into three issues per year. And of course, we’ll still be publishing everything online during term time.
So can you continue to enjoy beautiful print copies of EiC? Yes, every single term, from September 2025. And can you still sniff the pages as you remove your issue from the envelope? Oh, so that’s just me then. OK.
