Can you help us inspire change in the education sector?

The Science Teaching Survey 2023 is open now

The Science Teaching Survey 2022 gave us vital feedback. Now, the RSC is collaborating with the Institute of Physics and the Royal Society of Biology to find out how science teaching is changing, in 2023 and in the future.

We are inviting all science teachers, heads of department and technicians in secondary schools in the UK and Ireland to take part in the Science Teaching Survey 2023. The findings will provide valuable insight into science teaching in the UK and Ireland, helping us to influence policy and drive positive change in the education sector.

The survey closes on 30 May, so please don’t miss out on this opportunity to make your voice heard.

Decolonising the curriculum – focus group volunteers needed

Help us be inclusive at all levels

We want to include the voices of all those interested in science. We are committed to diversity and inclusion at all stages of teaching and in every level of education. The education policy team are running a virtual focus group aimed at identifying ways the RSC can support teachers in embedding more globalised perspectives and examples of ethnic minority chemists into their teaching. We are seeking volunteers at all career stages and sectors, no matter your level of experience, to contribute thoughts and ideas on this challenging yet important topic. Your views and experience will help us shape future RSC resources to support teachers with embedding geographically and ethnically diverse contributions to science into their teaching.

The exact time and date of the session will be confirmed, but there is a placeholder for early June. Express your interest now to volunteer or learn more.

Help your students master essential science skills

The building blocks of a science education

We know that the science curriculum can be overwhelming, and as such, some of the core science skills get neglected. Yet they are crucial. Teaching science skills is a series of online articles and resources covering everything you need to support your students to master essential skills. In it you’ll find:

  • Strategies to embed skills teaching in your current schemes of work
  • Classroom activities to download
  • Ideas to help you connect with other key departments

Learn and network at the conference

Attend the SaFE 7th National Teachers and Educators Hybrid Conference, on Tuesday 4 July at Nottingham University and online to be inspired by speakers and network with peers. The conference is aimed at student transition and inspiring the next generation of chemistry teachers. Speakers will explore a number of topics including sustainability, T-level science, early career support and there will be a plenary by Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff. It is always an engaging and inspiring event where new and experienced teachers leave brimming with ideas for the future.
