Identify learning gaps and misconceptions with this set of worksheets offering three levels of support

Choose from scaffolded, part-scaffolded and unscaffolded versions of this worksheet to support all learners to grasp the topic of carboxylic acids as part of their GCSE or equivalent 14–16 chemistry courses.

The worksheets cover the following: carboxylic acids as a homologous series, the general formula and functional group of carboxylic acids, the molecular and displayed formulas of the first four carboxylic acids, the reactions or carboxylic acids with metals, bases and carbonates, the reactions of carboxylic acids with alcohols to produce esters and the displayed formula of ethyl ethanoate. If learners successfully answer questions on these topics, they can attempt the extension. This requires learners to answer questions on strong and weak acids and name an ester.
