Investigate the science behind batteries in the context of tackling the climate crisis, with two experiments based on building a coin battery

Our global battery experiment gives you the opportunity to explore the science behind batteries – and why they are such an important part of our bright energy future.

Choose from two simple investigations, both offering the opportunity to make your own coin battery. Investigation one is aimed at learners aged 9–11 years, uses only everyday materials and can be done anywhere. Investigation two is aimed at learners 11–14 years, should be done in a science laboratory and uses a voltmeter to test different electrolytes. In both investigations your learners will find out more about batteries and how they work, as well as getting the chance to practise scientific enquiry skills.
