New support for teachers who have trained during the pandemic
We’ve launched our report into the impact of Covid-19 on teacher training, and we are now calling on UK governments to fund £7 million of practical CPD for all science trainee/student teachers who trained over the pandemic.
As another action prompted by our report, we’ve created a new support hub that draws together all our resources for early career and trainee teachers. From practical skills and subject knowledge, to lesson planning and behaviour management – we’re here to help.
Exciting yet simple experiments for 7-11 year olds
Check out our new series of primary science investigations. Designed to help learners practise key scientific skills, like making predictions and taking measurements, each investigation links to curriculum topics such as solids, liquids and gases, and reversible and irreversible changes.
They’ll develop pupil’s investigative and working scientifically skills and they couldn't be easier to set up in your class, with classroom slides, teaching notes and video demonstrations.
Get ahead on lesson planning this summer with our support
Engaging learners with scientific concepts doesn’t have to be hard work. Our dedicated secondary education website has the resources to help your students catch up on learning, ease their transition to A-level and support you as you plan next term’s lessons. It’s all free to access and you’ll be able to filter resources linked directly to your specification.
Our tailored secondary resources include:
- Practical videos – videos and linked resources to support remote and live teaching of core practicals
- Screen experiments – a great interactive way to catch up practical skills
- Organic chemistry worksheets – differentiated and editable to refresh your students’ knowledge
Make your voice heard: Pay and Reward Survey closes at midnight on 15 July
Information is power – we're asking all RSC members to help us to build a picture of working life in the chemical sciences by taking part in 2021's Pay and Reward Survey. We will explore what you want from current and future employers, pay gaps, differing working experiences as well as the impact of Covid-19 and Brexit on the workforce.
Get involved by completing the survey by 15 July. If you're an RSC member you should have been sent your personalised link by email. Get in touch with the Careers team if you haven’t received yours.
A new series from Education in Chemistry on sustainable development
EiC is launching a series of 12 articles, with accompanying resources, that offer practical ways to integrate the UN’s sustainability goals into your chemistry teaching and link them to the curriculum in the UK and ROI.
The first article looks at water sustainability, and shows you how to incorporate it into your teaching of separation techniques, sustainability of resources, potable water and the treatment of waste water.
Plastics explained
A sustainable future for plastics is within our grasp. But it will require chemical scientists, policy makers, those in industry, and those from a range of disciplines to work together. These new short introductory guides provide an introduction to key issues around plastics and sustainability – use them in your classroom to contextualise the topic and start debate.
