Discover how this approach can boost learners’ understanding and engagement with the first year of post-16 chemistry
Recognising the low retention of post-16 chemistry learners from the first to second year of A-level led two chemistry teachers to devise a flipped learning approach to lessons in the first term of year 12. Using workbooks for out-of-classroom preparation in combination with digital online learning and classroom lessons, they cover subatomic particles, atoms, molecules, giant structures, moles and molecular forces. Their approach is based on OCR’s B (Salters’) curriculum but is applicable to most A-level chemistry curriculums, as well as Advanced higher and Leaving certificate.
