Jeffrey Deakin

Having obtained a first-class honours degree in chemistry from the University of London and a PhD degree for research in physical chemistry from the University of Cambridge, Jeff taught chemistry and physics for a number of years in high schools in the United Kingdom. Later, he became deputy director of education for Lincolnshire in eastern England and then directed an education services company.

He has acted as an education advisor to secondary schools, local education authorities and government education agencies. Jeff has contributed as a member of the Curriculum and Assessment Working Group at The Royal Society of Chemistry, which is reviewing the national curriculum in each of the four home countries of the UK, and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Jeff enjoys writing about chemistry in contexts which involve interesting content that makes chemistry accessible and explains why it matters. He has published a book on chemistry suitable for A-level and university students and has had articles published in various educational science journals.
