This course is designed for early career teachers looking to consolidate and enhance their understanding of different teaching strategies, as well as developing their confidence in applying them. Over four sessions, you will explore key strategies from our course facilitators, before considering how they can be used in the classroom.

Course outcomes

After this module, you should:

  • have a range of new strategies to explore in your teaching
  • feel confident about how to implement these strategies in your classroom
  • feel confident teaching practical chemistry

Throughout the module, you will gain knowledge and skills for teaching chemistry through guided learning discussions, in which you will share science ideas and experiences with a group of your peers and teaching experts.

Whole-class practicals: how to organise them with health and safety in mind

This course is most suited to teachers who are:

  • new to their teaching role
  • looking to build understanding and confidence
  • keen to hear the expertise of course facilitators

Once you complete all four sessions, you will qualify for a certificate of attendance to add to your professional development portfolio or record.

Support from your subject or school leadership team is a critical factor in successful professional development. When you sign up for a module, we’ll ask you to provide details of a senior member of staff who is responsible for your professional development provisions, eg head of chemistry/department, assistant headteacher, headteacher etc.

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for early career teachers, so won’t be suitable for teachers who are established in their careers.

How much does the course cost?

Nothing at all! The course is free to join, although places are limited.

Is this course recognised? Will I receive a certificate?

Absolutely. The course is recognised CPD, so you will receive a certificate of attendance for your professional development portfolio/record once you have completed all sessions.

To qualify for the certificate of attendance, you must attend all sessions and complete all required tasks.

Do you record the sessions?

No, course sessions are not recorded. If you are not available for the course dates currently advertised, watch this space – most courses are run repeatedly, on a termly basis.
