Barry Mansfield

Barry Mansfield

Barry studied medieval and modern history at Nottingham University. After a brief spell in an office job, he decided to be a teacher and went back to university to complete a PGCE. Barry left the UK in 1988 to work in an American School in Athens, Greece, where he met his wife. Together they have worked in different schools in France, Kenya, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland. From 1992, he has been in International Baccalaureate (IB) schools. Barry was a Head of Department and an IB Diploma Coordinator before becoming Secondary School Principal - firstly at the International School of Berne, and then the International School of Paris. He has also completed an MA in Education before returning to the UK in 2015 to join Halcyon London International School as Director.

Barry is passionate about student centred education and the International Baccalaureate. He believes the IB allows schools the opportunity to be brave and innovative in their curriculum design; to embrace authentic student voice and agency, building a genuine, responsive learning community; and to provide a diverse, challenging, and enriching academic programme for students.
