On This Day - Jan 27 : In 1880, Thomas Edison was granted a patent for the electric lamp

The first electric carbon arc lamp was invented by Sir Humphrey Davy of England in 1801. However it wasn’t until 1880 that the discovery of the longer lasting electric lamp really changed the way we live.
