On This Day – Jul 09 : Amedeo Avogadro died

His hypothesis – now known as Avogadro’s Law – states that equal volumes of gases at a given temperature and pressure contain the same number of molecules. This is now widely accepted, and the number of molecules in a mole is referred to as Avogadro’s number, 6.023 x 10²³.
