Spectroscopy is an invaluable tool in both the qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances. In this set of activities the focus is on colourimetry, UV/Visible spectrometry and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometry. The programme is designed to develop students understanding of these topics from basic concepts to higher level thinking. It also aims to show that understanding how aspects of chemistry link together gives fuller understanding of the chemical processes as a whole. Working through the activities will also develop thinking and research skills.
