New: four practical videos to support your teaching
We’ve just added four new core practical videos that are exclusive to Teach Chemistry members, designed to help you and your learners get the most out of key experiments:
- Rates of reaction (for ages 14–16)
- Simple distillation (for ages 14–16)
- Enthalpy change of combustion (for ages 14–16)
- Paper chromatography (for ages 11–14 and 14–16)
These videos join our core practical video collection on our website. Use them to help you prepare a practical before the lesson, introduce your learners to the experiment ahead of time, or revisit experiment methods for revision.
What did science educators say in 2023?
The results of The Science Teaching Survey 2023 are out now, revealing common challenges and extensive insights from 2932 responses.
The findings cover challenges (amplified in areas of high socio-economic deprivation), understaffing and underfunding, PD, curriculums and much more.
Look out for our social live session on 27 February from 4.15–5.15pm (UK time), where we’ll be joined by panellists from our community and other organisations including the IOP and RSB to discuss the survey findings in more depth.
Broaden your knowledge with specialised support this spring
Our free teacher support sessions have been designed by expert trainers to boost your confidence in the classroom, maximise your students’ learning and empower them to dream big about what they can achieve in the chemical sciences. Join us online for:
- Developing effective leadership skills
Monday 26 February, 4–5 pm (UK time)
- Classroom management – tips and tricks
Monday 18 March, 4–5pm (UK time)
- Green hydrogen – Welsh chemistry teacher network

Resources for this year’s National Apprenticeship Week
Not sure how to give your students all the information they need for NAW 2024? Don’t worry, we have plenty of resources for educators like you. Take a look and explore the support you think will be the most useful:
Learn more about the practicalities of work-based training in chemistry with this page, covering the benefits of apprenticeships, profiles of real-life chemistry apprentices and more.
And find out about apprenticeships as routes to chemistry careers with this webinar recording.
Gain insight into apprenticeships in the chemical sciences by watching this helpful webinar, where apprentices talk about their own experiences.
Finally, this Education in Chemistry article asks the question: is an apprenticeship the right route for your students.
