Perform what looks like alchemy with ordinary copper coins in this teacher demonstration. Includes kit list and safety instructions.

In this teacher demonstration, students observe a copper coin as it is dipped into a solution of sodium zincate in contact with zinc metal. The coin becomes plated with zinc, appearing silver in colour.
